Catch up with the Derbyshire Dales Group! Recent highlights include a scenic Drive It Day run, a sunshine-filled visit from the Leicester Group, and a relaxed Derbyshire tour!

Simon Cowling writes: With the timing of the publications this write up is well in advance. I’m delighted to report that our call to arms in last months Tales from Derbyshire Dales has resulted in so many of you getting a wriggle on, including the odd raiding party, so keep coming to join us whenever you can.

Moving quickly onto events. On 21 April - Easter Monday members met with others at Ambergate for an interactive day out at The Great British Car Journey. On 27 April - Drive It Day, our thanks went to Ian Walker and Peter Callender, for a most enjoyable run. Meeting at South Wingfield Social Club fourteen cars, of which five were red, set off on a scenic route which included a planned coffee stop in the sunshine at The Dukeries Antique Center and then onwards to the Crown, Rolleston for lunch followed by spirited drives back home.

On 2-4 May twenty couples from the North London Group visited our area. And following a call some of us were able to join them. Staying at Makeney Hall their itinerary included trips to Bakewell and Buxton.

On 14 May at South Wingfield Social Club, we welcomed visitors from the Leicester Group, who had an enjoyable sunshine run and helped us celebrate Darren Salmon’s 60th Birthday.

On 20 May at The Crispin, date moved forward a week so as not to clash their Bank Holiday closure, fifteen of us gathered for a chin wag which again lasted until closing time.

On 31 May as part of the Triumph Club de France 50 celebrations in Arles. Dave Burgess and Sarah attended the Gala evening. Also, on that day, Mark Ockendon and Sarah organized an impromptu and very relaxed afternoon run around Derbyshire. After cake and coffee four cars set off from their house to Cromford Mills, then onto Monsal Head to take in the amazing view and onwards to Monyash to visit the well dressing and have a cuppa and ice cream. The Angler’s Rest in Bamford was chosen for dinner where they meet up with Sarah C and Liz F. The weather stayed dry with tops down all the way.

On 9 June we heard from Jim and Chris Tulley, who are currently in Jersey enjoying the sunshine and hopefully with no parking fines.

On 10 June Steve and Julie Buxton went off to Spain for 18 days to do a coast to coast trip via the Pyrenees.

On 11 June Alan Hawley strapped into his TVR is planning to join others at Curbouough for the TR Novice Friendly Track Day and to offer his expert guidance. Also, on that day, many of us are off to Le Mans to take on sleepless nights, a dose of grumpiness and disappointment that their favorite manufacture has not lasted the pace (Aston Martin Valkyrie comes to mind but I hope I’m wrong). Whilst most are returning after the race some are traveling on to Ghent in Belgum for a sobering historical reminder of past events, returning just in time to join others on the TR Tour to Southern Ireland.

Dave Worne’s team have Peak District 25 sorted, so please give it some thought and attend if you can.

With members spread right across our region, we continue to host two Club Nights per month and your raiding parties are most welcome, so please let us know if you intend to join us and also if you’re planning a tour in our area.

Barry Cockayne continues to update our varied calendar of events highlighting many historic local ones, including Matlock Motor Club 75 Anniversary Scenic Tour so check out the website.
