Down to Hastings for Drive it Day!

18th July, 2025

Spring means it has been time to get the cars out of winter hibernation.

19 cars turned out for a well-attended Brooklands Easter Classic Gathering, including Bruce Horner and Reg James who both joined us for the first time. Bruce has a lovely 1967 TR4a while Reg has a yellow left-hand drive TR6 imported from the US.

Drive it Day involved a proper drive out in excellent weather. 15 cars met up at the Godstone Golf Club on the A22 and enjoyed a scenic 50 mile route over the South Downs through Heathfield and Battle down to The Stade in Hastings. We collected a couple of others along the way, so ended up with 17 cars joining other South East Region TRs for a display in Hastings Old Town – over 90 TRs filled The Stade. South Downs Group had organised an excellent event and had also managed to book the sunshine! Hastings Old Town has many attractions but some of the highlights were the East Hill Lift, the seafront miniature railway, the RNLI’s Shannon class all-weather lifeboat and George Street shopping area. All in all, a great day out.

We’ve also squeezed in a couple of early Sunday morning breakfast runs out to our regular favourite, the Plucky Pheasant at Newlands Corner.
