Wharfedale Bowes Museum Spring Clean Run & Drive It Day, 27th April 2025

During our January committee meeting, planning our Events for 2025 John Roberts suggested the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle.The decision was duly taken to put it on the list, probably for our Spring Clean Run, this duly tuned out to be combined with Drive It Day as well.

We had 9 cars, there should have been 10, but John Kirkham's 6 decided it was going to have a leaking rear brake cylinder, so unfortunately John & Shelia couldn't join us.

We met at Otley Garden Centre at 9.30, we had a route planned to take us to Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn for a comfort stop, we had a great run through Leathley, past Menwith Hill, Summerbridge, Kirkby Mallard, Masham, East Witton, Spennithorne and Leyburn. We left Tennants, headed through Leyburn and out towards Belerby, brushed Richmond, through Gallowgate, Ravensworth and onto Bowes Museum.

Bowes Museum is a fabulous Arts, Ceramics & Furniture museum, purpose built by John & Josephine Bowes, the building is in the style of a French Chateau, opening in 1892. Well worth a visit, it has a great cafe as well.

We had a brilliant day out the weather was great, thanks to John Roberts for the fabulous routes. We were joined by Maurice Goodson, Maurice is long term member and has an immaculate TR3A, by his own admission he keeps a low profile, but had decided to join us, a good decision. It was also good to see John & Helene Dennison in their Stag.
