End of Season Results - TR Register / Revington TR Hillclimb and Sprint Championship

Season review by Roger McEwen

We thought that 2018 was something special but this year has been quite extraordinary. The Championship was won with one event to go, but all other awards were not settled until the final event at Castle Combe for which 18 contenders had entered.

Congratulations to Martin Paine on winning the Championship for the third year and to all the award winners and competitors.

The awards for 2019, presented by our sponsors Revington TR, are:

36 TR Register members entered the Championship this year. There was one entrant in Class 1, twenty in Class 2 and fifteen in Class 3. There were seven non-TRs being driven.

The average turn out at events was 7.1 competitors compared to 7.2 last year.

The average number of events per competitor was 4.5, down on last year, with the highest being 12 by Steve Small, followed by John Weedon on 10 and Martin Paine and Dale Strachan on 9.

Ten competitors scored the maximum points at an event, with Martin Paine scoring five maximums. Twenty-one competitors did the required five events to count for the Championship, the same as last year. Twenty new Bogey Times were set during the year by ten competitors with John Weedon setting five, a fantastic achievement.

The best supported event was the final event of the season at Castle Combe with eighteen Championship competitors, followed by the Bugatti OC Prescott Hillclimb with fifteen, and both Gurston Down Hillclimbs and the Castle Combe short Sprint with twelve.

All events in the calendar had some representation from the Championship although the Croft Sprint was cancelled due to lack of entries overall and the Manor Farm Hillclimb was cancelled due to the appalling weather at the time.

The Championship put on a static display at the Inter Club Triumph Weekend at Stratford upon Avon that attracted much interest and hopefully some additional competitors for the 2019 season. However the participation by Championship members in the Autosolo was somewhat of a failure!

Alan Yeo passed away during the season following a long illness.
